Ben Hewitt enters his first season as DePauw’s head women’s swimming and diving coach. Hewitt has served as the assistant men’s and women’s swimming coach at Division II Nova Southeastern University for the last three seasons.
He coached and mentored student-athletes who won three conference championships, twice finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Division II Championships. Additionally, individuals earned three NCAA titles and 24 all-America honors with one student-athlete representing his country in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Prior to coming to Nova Southeastern, Hewitt served as an assistant at Wabash College (2005, 09) and Kenyon College (2006). While at Wabash, Hewitt worked directly with three training groups and was in charge of designing comprehensive workout programs. In addition, he was involved in recruiting activities including coordinating and planning multi-faceted recruiting events.
While at Kenyon, Hewitt dealt with workout development and multimedia interactions. Furthermore, he helped coach the men to their 28th NCAA Division III title and the women to their 21st.
A native of Greenwood, Indiana, Hewitt received his bachelors of arts from Wabash College in 2005 where he was a four-year member of the Little Giant Swimming and Diving team. As a student, Hewitt was an All-Conference performer and served as team captain in his senior season. He was named MVP his junior year and received the mental attitude award twice during his time on campus.
The College Swim Coaches Association of America named Hewitt the 2013 recipient of the Jean Freeman Scholarship. This scholarship is given annually to an assistant coach in each NCAA division who displays exceptional characteristics of leadership, integrity, honesty, competitive attitude and personal graciousness.
