October 16, 2004

FORT MYERS, Fla. - DePauw junior Liz Bondi lost to top-seeded Lindsay Hagerman of Washington & Lee in the Division III singles final of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Championships hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. Hagerman won by a 6-3, 7-5 count.

After winning the ITA Division III doubles title on Friday, Bondi and freshman Elizabeth Steele competed in the first round of the ITA Super Bowl of Small College Tennis against the Division II champion team of Jing Jing Liu and Adrienn Hegedus of Brigham Young University-Hawaii. Bondi and Steele advanced to the Sunday's finals when the BYU-Hawaii duo retired after leading 6-4, 5-2. BYU-Hawaii is not permitted to compete on Sunday due to University policy, thus the retirement.

They play Larikah Russell and Daria Ivanova of Southern Nazarene who won the NAIA title on Friday. The winner of the Sunday morning match will claim the ITA Super Bowl title and advance to play in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan, November 4-7, against Division I competition.
