Bondi advances to NCAA singles quarterfinals after two straight-set wins; doubles team moves to quarterfinals

May 21, 2005, Kalamazoo, Mich. - DePauw junior Liz Bondi advanced to the NCAA Division III Singles Quarterfinals after opening the tournament with two wins today.

Bondi, seeded second in the tournament, defeated Emily Applegate of Washington & Lee 6-2, 7-5 in the first round before knocking off Lauren Hom of Gustavus Adolphus 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16.

Bondi improved to 32-2 on the season with her 18th straight win. She plays Amy Roche of Middlebury in Sunday's quarterfinal match. The winner advances to the semifinals which will also be played on Sunday. She advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2003 as well.

Bondi and junior Jill Anderson began play in the 16-team doubles championship and the third-seeded DePauw duo defeated Erin Hiranga and Jenna Umeno of Redlands 6-4, 6-1. In Sunday's quarterfinals, Bondi and Anderson take on Applegate and Kristen McClung of Washington & Lee.
