Drawn exclusively from the DePauw University Permanent Art Collection, The Red Sun in Our Hearts surveys the mid-20th century Socialist Realism art movement from mainland China.  Throughout the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution of the 1960s, nearly everything from the visual arts and literature to music and theatrical production was created under the watchful eye of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).  Socialist Realism rejected classical Chinese design elements and Western abstraction in favor of Soviet-inspired aesthetics and function.  The CCP printed millions of political posters for decades, covering a wide range of social, economic, and political themes.  This exhibition features 38 original political posters as well as stamps, film, and objects from the Cultural Revolution.  Februay 1-May 12, 2016  All exhibits are free and open to the public.

"What Would You Attempt To Do If You Knew You Would Not Fail?"  Dr. Marc Williams explores this idea in a motivational speech to start the new semester.  Dr. Williams will share his own experiences and his perspective on self-esteem, the power of choice, keeping education first and the importance of student advocacy and community involvement.

Dr. Marc Williams has spent the past 20 years as a “Marketing Guru”, Sports Marketing Pioneer and Pop Culture Expert. He worked for three of the largest sports brands in the world: Champs Sports, Footaction and Reebok. He is widely regarded as one of the nation’s foremost experts on branding, the art of networking, sports marketing, consumer behavior and hip-hop culture. Marc is the new author of “The Art of Networking: It is not who you know but who knows you.” Marc is also regarded as one of the top college motivational speakers in the United States and his insights have been featured in media outlets such as Forbes, Billboard, Wall Street Journal, Source, Ad Age, AdWeek, and USA Today. Marc has appeared on ESPN, CNN, BET’s 106 & Park and MTV. He was on the cover of Black College Sports Today, The Network Journal—and named to their annual Top 40 Under 40 issue. Clown Workshop with Master Teacher Kevin Coleman

Shakespeare & Company co-founder and renowed teacher Kevin Coleman is in residence for two weeks at DePauw supervising the training of students in Commuication & Theatre's Shakespeare in the Schools course.  Among other events, he is offering a CLOWN WORKSHOP intended to introduce participants to skills helpful to playing the clown, arguably Shakespeare's favorite character.  Come prepared to move and play - and be lovingly humbled. This is FREE and OPEN to all.
