Gilman Scholarship Information Session

Information and application session about the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship, which supports the costs of a semester, year or summer study abroad experience. Applicants must receive a Pell Grant as part of their normal financial aid package. This session will cover the basic requirements, eligibility and application process. Kelly Writers Series presents: Randall Horton

Randall Horton, author of Hookand winner of the GLCA PrizeRandall Horton is an assistant professor of English at the University of New Haven in Connecticut and the author of The Definition of Place (2006) and The Lingua Franca of Ninth Street (2009) and Hook (Augury Books 2015). He is the recipient of the Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award, the Bea González Poetry Award, and a National Endowment of the Arts Literature Fellowship. His creative and critical work has appeared in the print journals Callaloo, Sou’wester, Caduceus, New Haven Review, and the online journal The Offending Adam. Horton is a fellow of Cave Canem and a member of the Affrilachian Poets, two organizations that support African American poetry; and a member of the Symphony: The House That Etheridge Built, a reading collective named for the poet Etheridge Knight.   (Bio from the Poetry Foundation Website)

An evening centered around preludes and fugues for solo violin! This program will include the Bach C Major Adagio and Fugue, the Grave and Fugato from Eugène Ysaÿe's Sonata No. 1 for Solo Violin, and New York based composer Philip Wharton's work for solo violin titled "One," featuring its own prelude and fugue inspired by the writing of Bach and Ysaÿe, as well as movements inspired by the solo violin writing of Béla Bartók and Nicolo Paganini.
