Megan Alexander - Education and Community Arts

Megan Alexander, Arts in Education Specialist, will offer an active presentation concerning her ideas about the demonstrated success of 100% arts integration in public schools. She has developed a series of workshops to teach students about electricity using drama and movement.
Brown Bag event - please feel free to bring your own lunch.
Megan Alexander is excited to be back at her alma mater where she graduated in 2006, with a BA in Communications Arts and Sciences. Since that time she has been pursuing a career in education and the arts. Shortly after graduating from DePauw, Megan moved to Louisville, KY to intern for Actors Theatre of Louisville. There she discovered how a theatre can connect with local school systems and community groups to bring enrichment to the city, as well as ticket sales for the theatre. She then went on to work for Walden Theatre as a teaching artist, working more extensively with Louisville youth. In 2008, Megan began studying theatre education at Emerson College in Boston, MA, graduating with a masters degree in 2010. It was here that she fine tuned exactly how she would use theatre as a teaching tool in education. After two years as an elementary drama specialist for Boston area schools, Megan returned to her home town of Cincinnati, OH. She is currently a teaching artist, theatre consultant, and performance script writer. Her affiliations include Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park, Cincinnati's Children's Theatre, Creative Arts Initiatives, Dramakinetics, and Learning Through Art. Megan's ultimate goal is to start her own company providing teaching and learning opportunities for teachers and students through movement and creative dramatics.

Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture featuring Carl Bernstein, Wednesday, 2/13/13, 7:30 p.m.In 1973, the Washington Post's Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward won a Pulitzer prize for their investigative reporting that uncovered the Watergate scandal. Forty years later, in 2013, information is available from more sources than ever before via the Internet, yet newspapers are struggling and the very future of traditional journalism is in question. On Wednesday, February 13, Carl Bernstein will come to DePauw University to ponder "The State of Our Information: Is Journalism Dead?" in a Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture. The program will begin at 7:30 PM in Meharry Hall, located within DePauw's historic East College and will be followed by a book signing by Mr. Bernstein. Like all Ubben Lectures, it is presented free of admission charge and is open to all. For more information visit:www.depauw.edu/news-media/latest-news/details/28967
