An evening of solo piano transcriptions. Works by J. S. Bach, Richard Strauss, and George Gershwin, originally written for organ, vioiin, or orchestra, arranged for solo piano by Marcel Mercier (Cymerman's first piano teacher in his native France), Godowsky, Busoni, Cymerman (part of his 2009 sabbatical projec), and Earl Wild. This event is free and open to the public.

Known for his dramatic and unique style and as a gifted orchestral colorist, Schwantner is one of the most prominent American composers today.  He has served on the faculties of The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music and the Yale School of Music. Schwantner’s compositional career has been marked by many awards, grants, and fellowships, including the Pulitzer Prize in 1979 and several Grammy nominations. This concert will feature faculty and student performances of a wide range of Schwantner's works.This event is free and open to the public.

This recital hour features a performance and conversation with DePauw alumnus, oboist Ian Davidson. Dr. Davidson has appeared as soloist and chamber musician on six continents and is a founding member of the Wild Basin Winds. Recognized for outstanding contributions in teaching, service, and scholarly/creative activity, Dr. Davidson is also a Grammy nominee. He is currently Professor of Music at Texas State University. This event is free and open to the public.
