SUMMARY:Weathering the Storm: Supplies for Sandy
DESCRIPTION: The Asian American/Pacific Islander Intitative (AAPI Initiative) and the Association of African American Students (AAAS) are working together to collect funds and supplies for relief efforts for communities affected by Hurricane Sandy. All donations go to the Ali Forney Center and CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities. Donations will be collected in the Union Building Lobby and in other places (and at other events) around campus during the lunch hour (11:30am - 12:30PM) starting this Thursday November 8. This initiative will continue every weekday until November 30. The Ali Forney Center, also known by its acronym AFC, opened in June 2002. It serves mostly Manhattan and Brooklyn LGBTQ youth of color aged 16 to 24 years, providing them with safe shelter and other help in addition to counseling for their families where needed. CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities' mission is "to build grassroots community power across diverse poor and working class Asian immigrant and refugee communities in New York City." This event is free and open to the public. #free #opentopublic #hurricanesandy #donationdrive #donations&nbsp
