DePauw Theatre presen ts MYSTERIES...AND SMALLER PIECES. Collectively created by The Living Theatre. Directed by Tim Good. Students $3.00, Adults $6.00.Mysteries...and Smaller Pieces is a collective creation by The Living Theatre that changed theatrical history. Mysteries was the first play to be presented on the world’s major stages without fictional characters, plot, scenery or costumes. The virtually wordless composition redefines the nature of theater as pure communication between performers and audience. Relying on nonverbal sounds and improvised actions, Mysteries invokes the Dionysian sources of drama, offering the audience the opportunity of assisting in a series of rituals meant to liberate the actor’s deepest resources. #Theatre #Arts

September 6 – February 29, 2011An obsessive recorder of the world around him, the camera was Andy Warhol’s constant companion, functioning as a sketchbook, visual diary and means of communication. Including a selection of his Polaroid photographs, black-and-white prints, and Screen Tests, this exhibition presents Warhol’s work in a relational context that illuminates the complex ways in which he used the medium of photography to explore the interplay between image and memory and, ultimately, life and art. #Community #PeelerArtExhibit

This reading group led by Visiting Frederick Professor Claudia Mills will focus on the work of Cheshire Calhoun. Calhoun of Arizona State University is one of the most intellectually exciting, ethically engaging, and deliciously readable moral philosophers writing today. Calhoun is known both for her work on gay/lesbian/family issues and for her remarkable series of essays in the field of what might be called moral psychology. The reading group would read three of these essays – probably “Changing One’s Heart” (on forgiveness), “Standing for Something” (on integrity), and “Common Decency,” as well as a manuscript chapter of her book-in-progress on the meaning of life.

Join AAAS on Thursday, February 9th as we begin our celebration of Black History Month! Our first event honors African American Civil War soldiers who fought for the preservation of our union and the freedom of Black people. _________________________ As Major Delany takes the audience back in time, he engages the onlookers in conversation regarding the participation of black soldiers during the war. Delany will recount points in his personal story that brought him to this time and place; he will recruit and instruct volunteers to participate in the 105th Colored Infantry, his second regiment. After the new recruits are honorably discharged from active service, Major Delany will enjoin the entire audience to join in singing one of the black regimental songs. The Major will revisit pertinent points given during his presentation as he concludes his story. If time permits, a Question and Answer Session will follow the presentation. Major Delany is accompanied by Andrew Jackson-Smith a runaway slave who secretly worked himself northward seeking freedom. He was eventually recruited by a black abolitionist (See Maj. Delany) and went to Massachuettes to join the 54th Mass. Colored Volunteers, the first Federally authorized African-American Military Regiment during the US Civil War. Smith was later recommended for the Medal of Honor for his action under fire in the Battle at Honey Hill. Hear & see this true story up until the point the interpreter, Andrew Bowman, receives the Congressional Medal of Honor, posthumously for his grandfather - Andrew J. Smith, one hundred and thirty-five years later. #Community Source: http://www.storytellersdrum.com/major-general.htm

Nancy Bowen: BegettingsFebruary 6 - March 23, 2012Artist Talk and Gallery Reception: Monday, March 5, 4-6pm Nancy Bowen utilizes imagery from Farmer's Almanacs, published between 1800 and 1867. In her drawings, she collages imagery and text from the Farmer's Almanacs with rubbings of early American tombstones and linear patterns suggestive of Eastern origins. Her sculpture urges the questions raised by the works on paper: what recommends itself as auspicious? What compels belief? What serves in our negotiations with fate?#Community #PeelerArtExhibit
