Anne Nelson Jones ’55 Among Members of New DePauw Loyalty Society

When Anne Nelson Jones ‘55 made her most recent Annual Fund gift, it accompanied a proud note indicating it was the 50th consecutive year in which she had supported her alma mater. This is exactly the kind of special commitment the University aims to recognize through the new DePauw Loyalty Society being unveiled this spring.

The DePauw Loyalty Society will recognize all alumni and friends who have participated in the Annual Fund for five or more consecutive years, regardless of the size of their gifts. National Annual Fund Chair Lee Wilson ’76 believes the strength of DePauw’s Annual Fund begins with the support of consistent donors. "Loyal Annual Fund donors are the bedrock of the University's support. Their life stories are the heart and soul that makes DePauw a special place. Honoring them in this fashion reflects our deep sense of appreciation," says Wilson.

While Anne Jones set a personal milestone in her giving this year, she joined more than 10,000 other alumni and friends who give something back to the University each year. Anne explains the reasons for her flawless record, “DePauw is a magical school that shapes each graduate in a way one cannot imagine or appreciate until they take a moment to step back and reflect on their experience as a student.”

Whether it’s her memories of walking down Anderson Street to the Union Building, drinking coffee with friends at the Duck, or serving as a leader for both Delta Delta Delta sorority and Mortar Board, Ms. Jones says that although time has passed since her days on campus, DePauw still hold a memorable place in her heart. “I adore DePauw and miss the campus and the people. I made lasting friendships with classmates that I still keep in touch with today and I have fond memories of professors such as Miss Lucile Scheuer, Miss Nelle Barnhart, and Dr. Wally Graves.”

Ms. Jones, who today resides with her family in Greensboro, NC, says that her professional career as a High School Guidance Councilor was a result of her work in the Student Union and as a mentor to freshman students on campus. “DePauw definitely had an affect on my career. I received my Master’s Degree at age fifty because DePauw instilled in me a belief in life-long learning. All the extracurricular activities I participated in on campus played a large role in my professional life.”

DePauw continues to be shaped by the loyal support of alumni, parents, and friends. Today, DePauw aims to recognize and honor alumni, parents, and friends who demonstrate their loyalty to their school with the introduction of the DePauw Loyalty Society. All members of the DePauw family who make a gift of any size to the Annual Fund for five or more consecutive years will be honored as a member of this newly created giving society. Lifetime membership will be granted to those persons who give for twenty five or more continuous years. The full membership of the DePauw Loyalty Society will be noted in the 2006 Honor Roll of Donors.
