Tim Cope

Tim D. Cope

An assistant professor of geosciences at DePauw, Tim Cope teaches courses on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), sedimentology and stratigraphy, and field geological methods. His research focuses on the erosional record of modern and ancient mountain belts in eastern Asia, specifically northeastern China and the eastern Tibetan plateau. Since coming to DePauw in 2003, he has led students on course-related field trips to Utah, California, and New Zealand, as well as research expeditions to northeast China and Tibet.

Juliet Eilperin

Since April of 2004 Juliet Eilperin has covered the environment for The Washington Post national desk, reporting on science, policy and politics in areas including climate change, oceans, and air quality. In pursuit of these stories, she has gone scuba diving with sharks in the Bahamas, trekking on the Arctic tundra with Selma Hayek and Jake Gyllenhaal, and searching on her hands and knees for rare insects in the caves of Tennessee.

Jennifer J. Everett

An assistant professor of philosophy at DePauw, Jennifer Everett specializes in ethical theory, environmental philosophy and animal ethics.  Her current work centers on the ethics of sustainability in American higher education. Now in her second year at DePauw, Everett serves on the advisory board for the Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics. She was recently appointed the University’s first sustainability programs coordinator, overseeing initiatives to help reduce its ecological footprint.

Jay Hosler

Jay S. Hosler '89

A 1989 DePauw graduate, Jay Hosler is currently the University's Lee G. Hall Distinguished Visiting Associate Professor of Biology. Hosler received a Ph.D. in biological sciences in 1995 from the University of Notre Dame, where he remained as an assistant professional specialist from 1995-96 to teach Evolutionary Ecology and Introductory Biology Laboratory. In 2000 Hosler joined the faculty of Juniata College where he teaches General Biology, Sensory Biology, Invertebrate Biology and Neurobiology.

A 1976 DePauw graduate and Rector Scholar, Jeffrey M. McCall ’76 is the John D. Hughes Professor of Communication at DePauw. He is a recognized authority on media and journalistic ethics and standards. Dr. McCall is the recipient of numerous teaching awards at DePauw, and he is the author of a recently released book, Viewer Discretion Advised: Taking Control of Mass Media Influences, published by Rowman & Littlefield.

Bill McKibben

Bill McKibben is an American environmentalist and writer who writes frequently about global warming, alternative energy and the risks associated with human genetic engineering. Beginning in the summer of 2006, he led the organization of the largest demonstrations against global warming in American history. In January 2007, he founded Stepitup 2007 to demand that Congress enact curbs on carbon emissions that would cut global warming pollution 80 percent by 2050.

During Andy Miller's tenure as director of the Indiana Department of Agriculture, Indiana saw $2.68 billion invested in food and agricultural projects in 2006, bringing 2,518 jobs to Hoosiers. Miller has also worked to establish Indiana as a national leader in biofuels. Prior to his current role, Andy worked for Weaver Popcorn, ConAgra, Nabisco, and Procter & Gamble, in addition to creating Nature's Entrée, a frozen-food company in Indianapolis.

A DePauw graduate of the class of 1989, "J" Nichols is an Ocean Conservancy senior research scientist and enjoys discovering nature. He spent his youth exploring oceans, forests and his family history -- sparking a fascination for genetics and animal migration, as well as human culture and conservation, all of which have been the emphasis of his lifelong studies and research. He is spearheading the Ocean Revolution, a program that inspires, involves and mentors the next generation of ocean conservation leaders.

Greg Watson

Greg Watson is senior adviser for clean energy technology within the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. He is the administration's point of contact for the clean energy entrepreneurial community. Watson is on loan from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, where he most recently served as vice president for sustainable development and renewable energy. In that capacity, he directed the Cape & Islands Offshore Wind Public Outreach Initiative and MTC’s Offshore Wind Energy Collaborative (OWC).
