Event: Join DePauw alumni, current students, staff, faculty and community guests for a free lecture by Freakonomics Co-Author Steve Levitt.

Time: Monday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Green Center for the Performing Arts, Kresge Auditorium (click for campus map)

Other Information: Seating is general and no tickets are required for the lecture.

More about Steven Levitt: Steven D. Levitt is the William B. Ogden Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago, where he directs the Becker Center on Chicago Price Theory. In 2004, Levitt was awarded the John Bates Clark Medal, awarded to the most influential economist under the age of 40. In 2006, he was named one of TIME magazine's "100 People Who Shape Our World."

Co-authored with journalist Stephen J. Dubner, Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything was a worldwide sensation, examining questions such as "What do school teachers and sumo wrestlers have in common?," "Which is more dangerous: a gun or a swimming pool?," and "How is the Ku Klux Klan like a group of real estate agents?" The book hit the bestseller lists on its first day in print and continues to be phenomenally popular.

Levitt's appearance will come a few weeks after the release of his new book, SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance.

Pottery Barn and Real Simple contributor, Kate Parker, will share tips and tricks to simplify decorating and entertaining for the holiday season using Pottery Barn products.

About the Host - Jonathan Kling '01

A communications major, Jonathan graduated from DePauw Unviersity in 2001. Since graduation, Jonathan has been employed in a marketing capacity, beginning his career with Empower MediaMarketing as a Local Broadcast Strategist. In June 2008, he moved to a Marketing Strategist role at The David J. Joseph Co. This is Jonathan's first year on the Regional Alumni Council in Cincinnati.

Dec. 15 7:00 pm Regional New York: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
Please join the New York Regional Council and local alumni at a performance from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
 


Event: This winter Alvin Ailey Dance Theater presents a special 20th anniversary celebration at New York City Center. AADT has performed for an estimated 23 million people in 48 states and in 71 countries on six continents, including two historic residencies in South Africa. The company has earned a reputation as one of the most acclaimed international ambassadors of American culture, promoting the uniqueness of the African-American cultural experience and the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance.

Date and Time: Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 7 p.m.

Save the date to celebrate the holidays with Greater Washington D.C. Alumni and The Washington Chorus at the Kennedy Center.
 

Celebrate the magic of the season with The Washington Chorus’ beloved holiday event and an annual favorite with Kennedy Center audiences. Featuring brass, organ, percussion, and harp, the program will feature Christmas classics, sing-a-longs, candlelight processional, and guest choruses. Capture the magic of the season!
