Appeals Process

When and Where to Appeal a Ticket: A student who has a legitimate disagreement with a ticket issued to his/her vehicle may appeal the ticket. This must be done within five business days of the date on the ticket.

Appeal One of Two Ways:

1. Fill out the Parking Ticket Appeal Form to the right and press the "Submit" button at the bottom of the form.

2. Appeal forms are available at the Public Safety Office in the Memorial Student Union Building, room #200, bring your copy of the ticket.

** Online appeals are preferred. Appeals are most efficiently handled through the e-Services Parking Ticket Appeal Form. Walk-in appeals require more administrative support.

Before filling out your appeal, please review the following:
(Appeal reasons that are typically denied)
VIOLATIONS INVOLVING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES WILL NOT BE HEARD ON APPEAL: - All vehicles brought to DePauw, regardless of their intended use, have to be registered. - The office of Public Safety is open 24 hours a day. You can register you vehicle with them 24 hours a day. - All students are responsible for knowing the parking regulations in the Student Handbook. They should also be familiar with the parking map. Do not rely on posted signs only. - Student may not park on those streets and lots designated for academic hours use only between the hours of 7:00am and 4:30pm. The fact that there may be available spaces does not matter. These areas are restricted between the noted hours. - Parking improperly for “a few minutes” will be treated the same as parking improperly for an hour. The amount of time does not matter in determining whether or not the ticket is valid. - Using your hazard (4-way) lights will not keep you from receiving a ticket. - The lack of available “convenient” or “close” parking is not a reason to park improperly. If the area you “usually park in” is full, you must find legal parking elsewhere. - Scheduled class, athletic events/practices, academic or non-academic meetings/gatherings and any other academic or social appointments are not reasons to park improperly at any time. Additionally, being late for any of these things is not a reason to park improperly. - The amount of distance you had to walk, and the time of day it occurred, are not reasons to park improperly. Any time you are concerned about your safety, call Public Safety and an officer will meet you at your parking location and escort you to your destination. This service is available 24 hours a day. - Permission to violate the parking regulations in any way can only come from the office of Public Safety. Do not park improperly because you were told to by, an RA, a Faculty or Staff member, a friend, an upperclassman or anyone else. Only a staff member of Public Safety can give you this permission. This includes all areas used for loading and unloading during the academic year. - The fact that you “have seen others park there and never get ticketed” is not a valid reason for appeal. - The student who is registered with the vehicle will be the one responsible for any parking violations. - All appeals are final.
