Planning travel

Students and parents may wish to schedule airplane or other reservations for vacations and at the end of the semester. Please note that students will not be excused from class attendance or from taking examinations at their announced time to accommodate personal travel schedules. It is the responsibility of students and their families to make travel arrangements that enable them to meet all their academic obligations.

Classes, including evening classes, will meet on Tuesday, November 24. Final examinations for first semester will end on December 18 at 5 p.m. The final exam schedule is available at http://www.depauw.edu/admin/registrar/acadcal.asp. It is very important to check your students’ final exam schedule before making travel reservations.

Shipping luggage ahead

Students who are not able to transport all of their belongings with them when they come to campus may elect to ship them to campus prior to their arrival.

Your UB Box Number is accessible by logging into your e-Services account.  Be sure to mark all packages with "STUDENT, HOLD FOR ARRIVAL.” You can retrieve your packages from the Student Post Office located in the Union Building during specific times during orientation and during regularly scheduled hours during the academic year.  Any items sent by sea or air freight (i.e., not through the postal service) must be claimed at the U.S. Customs Office in Indianapolis (40 miles from Greencastle).  These items can be addressed as above, but you must arrange your own transportation to go to Indianapolis to retrieve them.

Regular postal air or sea mail comes directly to DePauw.
Items shipped via United States Postal Service should be sent after August 7 to:

Transportation to campus

There is a shuttle service available for DePauw students at various times throughout the academic year. Students are encouraged to consult the shuttle schedule prior to booking any airline reservations. Shuttle space is limited.

For more information about the shuttle service, visit http://www.depauw.edu/student/campusactivities/shuttle/

Vehicles on campus

Parents may wonder about the need for student vehicles on campus. Automobiles are allowed for all students, but having one is not a necessity – although your student may disagree. Parking lots for student vehicles are provided by the University, but in some instances they are three to five blocks away from residence halls. New students need to be aware that they will be required to park in designated lots west and south of the Lilly Physical Education and Recreation Center or the Blackstock Athletic Complex, both of which are on the perimeter of campus.

Students bringing vehicles to campus are required to register them at the DePauw Public Safety Office, or a student can also register a vehicle online through e-services. A confirmation e-mail will be sent once the permit is available to be picked up from the Public Safety Office. The vehicle registration and a picture ID will be required to pick up a parking permit. Parking regulations are strictly enforced by the Public Safety Office on streets that run through and adjacent to campus as well as on campus. Failure to comply with the regulations may result in tickets, placement on the tow list (after three tickets), impoundment or immobilization of the vehicle and repeat parking offender charges.

Students and parents with parking questions or concerns should contact the DePauw Public Safety Office at 765.658.4261.
