Alpha Chi Omega was founded as a women’s fraternal organization in 1885 right here at DePauw University by seven women seeking to form a society that would provide both close companionship and support to all of its members that would last a lifetime. The mission statement of Alpha Chi Omega reads that it is a national women’s organization that enriches the lives of members through lifetime opportunities for friendship, leadership, learning and service. Today, membership exceeds 170,000 initiated members with over 132 active collegiate chapters and 200 alumnae chapters.

A Welcome from Our President:

Dear Visitors,

This past Fall semester at Alpha Chi Omega has been full of excitement and fun!

Classes quickly started, and before anyone knew better school was in full swing! With the new academic year came changes to the First Year policies that allowed Alpha Chi to host six groups of First Year women for lunches through the first half of the semester. We all had a great time getting to know the women on campus while enjoying Anita’s fantastic cooking.

October saw “Skating with the Stars” where members and their dates went roller skating dressed as their favorite celebrities. Later in the semester we enjoyed Fall Formal at McCormick’s Creek State park. Alpha Chis and their dates enjoyed dancing the night away to the live band and a country spread buffet.

In November we hosted Ring Sing, our annual Monon Bell Pep Rally, where fraternities and sororities pair up and compete in a dance competition. This year we added a Punt-Pass-Kick football competition to tie the event in with Monon Week. In addition to the fun, we raised money and awareness during Ring Sing for our national philanthropic cause, Victims of Domestic Violence. We teamed up with Omega Phi Beta to pass out hot chocolate and cookies in the Academic Quad to spread the word about preventing domestic violence. The week came to a fantastic end when DePauw beat Wabash in the Monon Bell Classic and the Bell was returned to Greencastle after a two-year hiatus!

Academics are very important to our chapter, and we strive for excellence in our studies. Alpha Chi Omega achieved the second highest GPA for sororities in Fall 2007 with an average GPA of 3.46, a .02 increase from the previous semester! To celebrate we hosted our biannual scholarship dinner, inviting professors to the house for dinner and having an awards ceremony recognizing individual achievement within the chapter.

While Spring semester is already in full swing, we look forward to what the new term has to offer!  With the new Executive Board in place and working well together, the next year has promise for Alpha Chi Omega.

Regards,

Caitlin Cavanaugh, President

The Symphony of
Alpha Chi Omega

To see beauty even in the common things of life, to shed the light of love and friendship round me, to keep my life in tune with the world that I shall make no discords in the harmony of life, to strike on the lyre of the universe only the notes of happiness, of joy, of peace; to appreciate every little service rendered; to see and appreciate all that is noble in another, be her badge what it may; and to let my lyre send forth the chords of love, unselfishness, sincerity.  This is to be my symphony.
