• Kappa Kappa Gamma Founding Date: October 13, 1870 at Monmouth College in Illinois by six women.

• Membership Numbers: Since the foundation in 1870 over 200,000 women have been initiated into Kappa Kappa Gamma.
There are currently 134 collegiate chapters in the nation.

• Kappa Kappa Gamma was initially a fraternity because it was founded before the term "sorority" was coined.

The Key

The Key is the official badge of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

The Owl

The Owl generally represents wisdom. It is also the bird of Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom.
The Coat of Arms

It combines all the symbols of Kappa Kappa Gamma - the key, the greek letters, the new member pin, the fleur-de-lis, the owl and the two blues of KKG.
The Fleur-de-Lis

It is the official flower of the Fraternity. It signifies a state of general dignity, stateliness and grace. Also the flower combines the two blues (light blue and dark blue) of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

 

Iota Chapter Information

• Iota Chapter Foundation: 1875

• Kappa is 137 years old.

• The Iota chapter was founded by 6 women: Ida Anderson, Ada Oliver, Amy Puett, Margaret Purviance, Lillian Wiggs, and
Netta Wiggs.

• Kappa's First National Convention was held in Greencastle in 1876.

• Our current chapter house was built in 1924 and was the first women's group at DePauw to build its own home.

• In May 1889 Kappa had Theta over for the first intersorority party at DePauw University.
