Krista Brucker Internship Survey, Spring, 03

Mental Disability Advocacy Center (MDAC) in Budapest, Hungary

General PR as well as proofing translations. Oh yes, and of course grant writing!

3. Did you like/dislike your overall experience
LOVED IT. Perhaps, no certainly, the best experience of my college career.

3. What did you learn/gain
A better understanding of NGO work outside of the United States as well as an appreciation for the variety of careers and life-styles available.

4. Would you do it again/did it change your career path
I would love to do it again. NGO work is some of the most challenging and
rewarding work I have ever done.

Living and working in former Soviet satellite country and seeing the ramifications
of "socialism". Working along side people whose parents risked their lives to
topple the communism and restore basic freedoms.

Meeting Otto Habsburg (the would be Monarch of the Austro-Hungarian empire
had it survived) at the Hungarian Parliament.

7. Worst experience
Not speaking Hungarian very well was challenging at times.

8. Did you enjoy being in "the real world"
It was amazing. It not only changed the way I looked at the world, but also at
DePauw and the opportunities available here.

9. Advice for others going on an internship
Do not be afraid to do something different and creative--it could well be the best experience you have at DePauw. There are internships all over the globe--don't be afraid to look for them.

10. Would you recommend others to do the same internship
YES YES YES
