Andy Bruner
Summit County News

Frisco, CO - Junior Andy Bruner '09 spent fall of 2007 interning at the Summit Daily News as a news reporter writing about everything from local schools to health care and tourism. Following two students that had taken the internship in previous years, Bruner decided to work for the newspaper knowing that he would have the opportunity to do a lot of writing.

"Interning at the Summit Daily News was a great taste of 'real world' reporting," reports Andy, "and it has shown me that this journalism thing is what I want to do to pay the bills post-DePauw."

When looking at colleges, Andy Bruner knew he was interested in print media and saw The Media Fellows Program as a good mix of the classes and real world experience for which he was looking. While at DePauw, he has been involved with WGRE, the campus radio station, and JC Christian Fellowship (now called InterVarsity).  He also spent time as a reading tutor at Ridpath Elementary school in Greencastle and is a work study student at the Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media. Making Dean’s List every semester of his college career, Bruner has excelled academically, and is a member of scholastic honor society Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society.

Frisco, ColoradoBruner, a history major, has been very involved with the University newspaper, The DePauw, spending multiple semesters on the publication’s editorial board and capping his experience there by being named Editor-In-Charge his senior year. Adding to his print experience, he has interned as a news reporter for both the Southwest Suburban Bureau of The Oregonian in Portland, OR during the summer of 2007 and The Paper of Montgomery County in Crawfordsville, IN the following summer. After graduation, he hopes to work in print journalism as a reporter.
