who is both an Honor Scholar and a Science Research Fellow, is as at home reading a novel as she is peering through a microscope. "I understand biology better because of my interest in literature, and I understand literature better because of my interest in biology." During one semester, she looked at the same issue - complexity theory -in both her Honor Scholar course and her Science Research Fellows course. "DePauw helps bring together connections in different disciplines. That doesn't happen everywhere." Her research experiences have been extensive: She worked in a commercial pharmaceutical lab and she presented research conducted with a DePauw biology professor at a national conference. "Surprisingly, I was the only undergraduate there." Careers in medicine or scientific writing top her post-graduation list.

was accepted at an Ivy League university but instead chose DePauw. "It was a tough decision. But with the Honor Scholar and Science Research Fellows programs, I'm having an opportunity that I simply wouldn't have at another school, even another small school." Those opportunities include classes of 10 students with top professors, classes where "we are tracing the development of thought around a particular theme, breaking it down as a group, digesting it and then making sense of it as individuals." David's hands-on learning experiences have been extraordinary; the astrophysics research he did in conjunction with a DePauw professor will soon be published. He's also had a research internship at Harvard Medical School and hopes to have another at the National Institutes of Health. DePauw's balance of academics and extracurricular activities has been a bonus for Dave. "I'm president of my fraternity," he says, "The opportunities for leadership here are unparalleled."
