“At its heart is the very nature of a liberal arts education, namely, exploring new areas of study and gaining exposure to new schools of thought. Above all,
the Honor Scholar program is about freedom. It is a platform designed to carry students as far as their imaginations and intellectual curiosity will take them. It is a program that does not close doors, but opens them wide, letting the entire world inside for a student to experience. This is what I view as the spirit of our program.”
~ Andrew Strasburg '07
A sampling of Honor Scholars declared majors: Anthropology, Art History, Biology, Bio-Chemistry, Communication, Computer Science, Conflict Studies, East Asian Studies, Economics, English Literature, English Writing, French, History, Interdisciplinary, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, and Spanish.
“The Honor Scholar Program is by far one of the things I love most about DePauw. A lot of college classes are taught lecture style, but all of my Honor Scholar seminars have been discussion classes. The professors are interested in the topics they teach, and their enthusiasm rubs off on their students. My fellow Honor Scholars are some of the most interesting and brilliant people I've met on campus. My Honor Scholar seminars have been my favorite classes at DePauw, sitting around a table discussing consciousness or the origins of the universe. Intellectual curiosity is the heart of the program."
