Science Research Fellows (SRFs) have the advantage of majoring in any of the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geoscience, Mathematics, Physics & Astronomy, Psychology) and also gaining exposure to the thinking and communication skills developed by the liberal arts. Listed below are the four main components of the program. |
Research Experience I/II = HON 191/192(Formerly SRF Research Seminar) Research Experience I breaks from the traditional seminar format. Students participate in a two-semester research seminar, which helps to develop the skills necessary for future research experiences. Fall semester students work in small groups on a research project which culminates in a group presentation. Spring semester is an individual project with a science faculty member. Student/Faculty Summer Research |
![]() |
During the summer between the first and second years in the program, students spend 10 weeks on campus as paid research assistants working on a collaborative research project with science faculty. The projects typically begin in late May and end in early August. Students present their findings in a poster session at an open-university forum the following year. In addition, project results have occasionally been presented at state, regional and national professional meetings, and a few projects have resulted in publications in professional journals. Off-Campus Semester Internship |
Students are expected to complete a semester research internship and are eligible as early as summer following sophomore year through fall semester of their senior year. Students can find an internship tailored to their individual interests. They are encouraged to go off campus to a major research university, a government laboratory or a private research corporation. Some students elect to do their internship at a research location outside of the United States. Others may choose a continuing project at DePauw. Link to Internship |

Capstone Senior Seminar |

SRF students close their DePauw careers by taking a senior-level capstone seminar in their final spring semester. The class provides the opportunity for the Research Fellows to share their research internship experience with one another and to read about and discuss scientific issues that will be relevant to their careers after graduation. |
