Student Quick Guide
This document addresses common issues students may encounter at the beginning of the semester.
How do I login to Blackboard?
Open an internet browser (Internet Explorer is the recommended browser) and browse to http://blackboard.depauw.edu. Click Login. Typically, a student's Blackboard username is the same as their Tigermail username and their password is their Student ID number. However, if this does not work, you will need to request your login information by clicking on the Forgot password? link and following the on-screen instructions. Complete the first three information boxes keeping in mind the first name and last name fields are case sensitive (capitalize the first letter of each) and the username field should be all lowercase.
What if my password no longer works?
You will need to request a new password by clicking on the Forgot password? link as directed in the above section.
I requested my password from Blackboard and never received an email. What happened?
If someone enters their username or email address incorrectly when requesting a password, the notification will be sent to the email entered. You will need to request your password a second time paying close attention to the username or email address you enter.
Why did I receive a "Lost Password Notification" when I have not requested a password from Blackboard?
If a person requesting a password from Blackboard types in the incorrect information, this notification is sent to the information entered. You can ignore this message.
Why can't I login to Blackboard in my dorm room?
You may need to enable the cookies in your browser.
Open Internet Explorer (the recommended browser for Blackboard users).
Click Tools.
Click Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab.
Move the slider to Medium in the Settings box.
Click OK.
How do I change my password?
In the Tools box under the My DePauw tab, click Personal Info.
Click Change Password.
Enter your new password.
Verify your new password.
Click Submit.
Why isn't my course listed in the "Courses in which you are enrolled:" section?
Check with your instructor to see if you are enrolled in the course.
If yes, ask the instructor to make the course available.
If no, ask the instructor to enroll you in the course.
How do I access eReserve documents?
Within the appropriate course, there is a Library Resources content button. By clicking on this button, you will be able to access eReserve documents. Things to remember as you access eReserve documents:
eReserves and some full-text documents, such as JSTOR, use a file format called PDF, which is like a snapshot of a paper document. These files can be very large. Large files easily clog the network, which takes the document longer to load. Be patient and wait for it to load.
Printers have limited memory resources. Print your documents in chunks of ten pages at a time. Also, make sure the printer you set-up as your default printer is the one you are trying to print to.
When I click on a document to view it, symbols and other garbage is displayed. What is wrong?
You may not have the appropriate software downloaded on your computer to view the file.
To view Word files you must have Word installed on your computer. All university owned computers have Word installed on them for your use.
To view PDF files you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. This is a free download that you can find at:
Blackboard Web site: http://www.depauw.edu/it/blackboard .
Help Desk downloads page at: http://www.depauw.edu/it/helpdesk/downloads.
eReserves Web site: http://www.depauw.edu/library/services/reserves .
Adobe Web site: http://www.adobe.com .(opens in new window)
If someone sends me an email in Blackboard, where is it sent?
When an Email is sent in Blackboard, it goes to your DePauw email address (e.g., jdoe@depauw.edu ).
