How to Capture a Screenshot

A screenshot (or screen capture) is essentially a picture of the computer screen that you see now.  Screenshots are extremely useful for how-to guides, presentations, and visually enhanced documents.

There are different ways to obtain a screenshot.  Some people like to use software (i.e. SnagIt) to capture desired images, but this guide will focus primarily on how to acquire a screenshot by using the Prnt Scrn button on the keyboard.

1. First decide what you want your screenshot to entail.  When thinking about screenshots it is important to remember that everything you see on your screen is exactly what will show up on the screen shot.  If there are multiple windows on screen then all of those windows will be displayed.

2. After you decide exactly what you want to make a screenshot of, simply push the Prnt Scrn button on the key board (this button is usually found in the top right area of the keyboard).

You will notice that nothing really happens after hitting the Prnt Scrn button, and that is okay because now the image is automatically on the computer clipboard.  Simply open up a word document (or any other work processor) right click on the mouse and click paste.  You can also go to Edit > paste as well as shown below.

Resizing the picture

To make a picture bigger or smaller simply use the drag boxes.  Drag boxes which look like small black boxes found on the perimeter of the picture.  Just click and drag various boxes until you get the desired size.

To crop a picture simply use the crop tool, which is found on the picture tool bar.  The tool bar comes up whenever you click on an image.  To use the crop tool simply click and drag from the corners until you get the desired size.
