Overview of the workspace

Fireworks 8

  • At the top of the screen is a Menu Bar. Most Fireworks commands are accessible from the Menu Bar.
  • In the center of the screen is the Document Window. In the center of the Document Window is the Canvas. This is where the Fireworks document and any graphics you create are displayed.
  • On the left side of the screen is the Tools panel. If the Tools panel isn’t visible, choose Window > Tools. The Tools panel is where you’ll find tools for selecting, creating, and editing a variety of graphic items and web objects.
  • At the bottom of the screen is the Properties inspector. If the Properties inspector isn’t visible, choose Window > Properties. The Properties inspector displays properties for a selected object or tool. You can change these properties. If no objects or tools are selected, the Properties inspector displays document properties.

 

 

 

Photoshop

 

  • In the center of the screen is the document window. In the center of the document window is the canvas. This is where the Photoshop document and any graphics you create are displayed.
  • The menu bar is located at the very top of the window and contains menus for performing tasks. The menus are organized by topic. For example, the Layers menu contains commands for working with layers.
  • The toolbox is located on the left hand side of the screen. It holds the tools necessary for creating and editing images.
  • The options bar consists of the four windows on the right hand side of the screen. It provides options for using a tool.
    • The Photoshop options bar includes a palette well that helps you organize and manage palettes. Using this well you may choose colors using the sliders, solid swatches, or stylized swatches.
  • The properties box, located to the left of the options bar, allows you to edit text. This is where you change the font, size, color, or paragraph properties. To hide or show this box, choose Window> Character.
