Adding Titles and Subtitles

1. Click Titles from the Effects and Sounds palette.

2. Choose the title you would like to use.

  • Select a title style from the list shown. This style will preview in the black box at the top.

3. Edit the title.

  • Drag the Speed slider to change how fast the title fades in and out.
  • Drag the Pause slider to set the length of time you would like the title to remain on the screen before fading out.
  • Click the Color box to change the text color.
  • The default is to put the title on top of the video clip. To put the title over a black background rather than video, select Over Black.
  • Use the direction button to choose the direction from which you want the title to enter the screen (if applicable.)
  • Use the font pop-up menu to choose a font (see below.) To do this, click on the black and blue arrows to the right of the font menu (see above.)
  • Make the text larger or smaller by dragging the text size slider in between the big and small A.
  • For some title styles, you can create more fields by clicking on the “+” sign and delete extra fields by clicking in the “-“ sign that are directly below the font selection.
  • If you plan to export your movie for viewing on a television screen, deselect the QT Margins box so that no title text is cut off on the television screen.

4. Insert the title into your movie.

  • Click and drag the title style you have chosen from the list to just before the clip where you would like it to appear on the movie timeline (see below.)
  • It may take up to a couple of minutes to render the title (insert it into your movie.)
