Exporting from iMovie to the Web (QuickTime)

1. Make sure your project is saved.

  • Go to the File menu, Save Project.

2. Choose settings for exporting movie.

  • Go to the File menu, choose Export Movie.

  • In the “Export Movie” box choose: Export: To QuickTime. (Default is exported to camera.) To do this, click the double arrows at the right of the Export box.

  • New options will now appear. Click the double arrows to the right of the “Formats:” box, and choose a format for your movie.

  • Click Export.

3. Save the movie and begin exporting.

  • A window will appear that will allow you to save your QuickTime file. This file is different from the iMovie file with which you have been working. In the “Save As” dialog box, give your completed project a name. This name can be the same as your current file name, or you may choose something different.

  • Save your file in the Save here (external drive) folder on the Desktop and inside your personal
folder that you created when you started the project. You might create a separate folder containing the web version of your project. To do this simply choose new folder and name it accordingly.
  • A progress bar will then appear that will display the time remaining to covert your project to QuickTime format. Keep in mind that exporting takes quite a bit longer than the actual length of your movie.

When the export is complete, test your movie to make sure everything works properly.
