Burn a CD

Windows Media Player:

To burn your own CD, choose FileCDs and DevicesBurn Audio CD from the menu bar, or click on the Burn button in the features taskbar.  The Burn feature is displayed.  In the 'Items to Burn' pane, use the Burn list pull-down list to select the playlist in your library that contains the files you wish to burn.  To add files from other playlists to the list of items to burn, or to remove items from the playlist that you don’t want to burn, click the Edit Playlist button.  The number of selected items and the total time is displayed at the bottom of the 'Items to Burn' pane.  If necessary, clear any check boxes of items you do not wish to burn.  Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW into the CD drive.  When using a CD-RW, you must first erase the CD before burning it.  To do this, click the Erase Disc button.  To change the recording or data CD settings such as the CD write speed and quality, click the Display Properties and Settings button (optional).  In the Items on Device pane, choose the type of CD you are burning (audio, data, or highMAT audio).  Click the Start Burn button.

Some things to note:

  • Before items are burned, Windows Media Player sometimes converts them to a different file type.  This process can take a few minutes.
  • If you are using a CD-R, you cannot burn additional tracks to the CD after burning is completed.  If you are using a CD-RW and wish to burn additional tracks, you must erase the CD before burning items to the CD again.
  • You can rearrange the items in the 'Items to Burn' pane by dragging them to the position in which you want them to be on your CD.
  • Playback may be affected if you try to play an audio CD while also burning a CD.  It is recommended that you do not perform any other tasks while burning a CD.
