Scanning Guide

Before you begin your scan you should decide the format you would want to save your image in. Digital Images can be saved in a variety of formats, the most frequently used formats are:

   

Tagged Image File Format (TIFF):
File Size: Large, lots of detailed data
Best Use: Archiving images

Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG):
File Size: Reduces file size with compression algorithms
Best Use: Photos and large graphics for the internet

Graphic Interchange Format (GIF):
File Size: Reduces file size with compression algorithms
Best Use: Icons and small images for the internet

Portable Document Format (PDF):
Best Use: Text documents which are not to be edited
