FITS staff members provide consulting on the best use of technology in teaching and learning.
Shifting from "How" to "Why"
As technology in the era of Web 2.0 becomes easier to navigate, FITS staff have discovered that faculty members may require less assistance learning how to use a given technology but may still require help in finding the best technology for a particular teaching or learning need. Thus, the consulting role in FITS has shifted away from assisting faculty members on learning how to use a complex piece of software to helping them figure out why technology can facilitate teaching and learning, including finding the right technology for the activity at hand. For example, although a Google Document employs simple technology, the ways to leverage it for various activities--both academic and administrative--are numerous and diverse.
