Subject: Cyber Security Tip of the Day

Greetings,

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. To help computing at DePauw, various events and activities have been planned during the week of October 27th. You will be receiving “Tip of the Day” emails throughout the week reminding you of ways to protect yourself and your computer. We will discuss laptop security, password protection, backing up your information, and using anti-virus software. This year you’ll be under the protection of the CyberCats! Keep an eye out for posters and ads with more information. You can also visit http://www.depauw.edu/it/healthycomputing for online cyber security resources, including a full list of this week’s events.

A CyberCat may not always be around to fix your computer, so prevention is the best solution…. A scan a day can keep your laptop from needing a CyberCat! Follow this advice from the CyberCats lab!

  • Install Symantec anti-virus software (10.0 is the latest version) & set it to update automatically.
  • Install all patches and security updates.
  • Do not download illegal movies, music or software.
  • Do not open or save unknown email messages or attachments.

Stop by our tables in the Hub on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 11:00am-1:30pm to register your laptop’s serial number for a chance to win an external hard drive!

Sincerely,

The DePauw Help Desk Staff
