Windows XP Installation Instructions

Step 1: Download

GroupWise Messenger for Windows (file size - 13MB)

Step 2: Install

Do one of the following:

  • To start the installation immediately, click Run This Program From Its Current Location and click Yes if prompted by a security warning.
  • To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save This Program to Disk. When the download is complete, to start the installation double-click "messenger105.exe".

Step 3: Start using Novell Messenger

  • When the installation is complete, double click on the Messenger icon on your desktop.
  • Enter "Server IP address" (gwim.depauw.edu) and "Port" (8300) needed for Novell Messenger. And, enter your name and password.

Macintosh OS X Version Installation Instructions (10.3 and newer only)

The Novell® Messenger 1.05 for Macintosh is available for download as a StuffIt file.

Download Instructions:
  1. Download the Novell Messenger 1.05 for Macintosh. (file size - 2.2MB)
  2. Follow the prompts to download the StuffIt file to a temporary directory on your Macintosh workstation.
  3. At your Macintosh workstation, browse to the gwm105cmac.sit file.
  4. Double-click the gwm105cmac.sit file to uncompress the downloaded file.

    The result is a directory named gwm105cmac.
Messenger Installation Instructions:
  1. Change to the gwm105cmac directory.
  2. Double-click the nvlmsgr.sit file to install the Messenger client software.
  3. If the software asks to install Java 1.4.2 for Mac OS X, then go to this site and follow the instruction to download and install.
  4. To start the client after installation, click the Messenger icon on your Macintosh desktop. Enter "Server IP address" (gwim.depauw.edu) and "Port" (8300) needed for Novell Messenger. And, enter your name and password.
