Getting Recommended Software Updates on your Mac

To ensure that your Macintosh has the most current versions of applications and system tools, you can set your system to automatically check for new updates. To make sure your updates are turned on, click the Apple icon at the top and select System Preferences, then click on the icon marked Software Update.

Next you will need to check the box marked Check for Updates, and choose how often you want to check, such as Weekly.

When your system checks for new updates, it will bring up a dialog box similar to the one below, indicating recommended updates to install. Check or un-check the boxes for the updates that you want to install, and click the Install button at the bottom. You will normally be prompted to restart your computer once updates are installed.
