Moodle is like BlackBoard but is developed from a more learning-centric perspective, rather than an administrative functions perspective. It enables faculty members to easily set up interactive, online course communities and materials for classes.

Why Moodle?
FITS and the Faculty Academic Technology Advisory Commitee (ATAC) worked together during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 academic years to carefully research and identify the next steps that we should take with regards to Blackboard and our course management system (CMS). As a result of that research and our pilot studies, we identified Moodle as the best path to take in upgrading the CMS. Moodle is a system that will provide all the features that we are already using in Blackboard, while also offering additional features and flexibility (that Blackboard does not offer) to enable us to ultimately do new and creative things online. Moodle is also a system that is becoming widely adopted by several small liberal arts institutions like DePauw, which will enable us with a strong community of support and sharing best practices among our colleagues.
