Quick Tips for Instructors:
About student laptops...

  • To ensure your classroom will accommodate any wireless needs you may have and that you are comfortable using the available technology in the classroom, arrange a time for one of the FITS staff members to meet with you and pre-test it at the beginning of the semester. (Contact Donnie Sendelbach: DonnieSendelbach@depauw.edu)

  • If you are using the students' laptops in a class, FITS instructional technologists are available to come to your classroom(s) during the first time or two. If there are other ways that they might be able to assist, please dont hesitate to ask! (Contact Donnie Sendelbach: DonnieSendelbach@depauw.edu)
  • Review the suggestions from the Academic Technology Advisory Committee (ATAC) about what they recommend faculty members consider in light of the laptop initiative.
  • Recommended software for students:
    • Students who purchased Dell and HP Tablet PC program laptops have program software (including Microsoft Office and Symantec Antivirus) already installed on their machines. The price of the software was bundled into their laptop order.

    • Students who purchased Macintosh program laptops are required to purchase their bundle from the Helpdesk or at one of the software installation tables. A charge of $225 for the software package will be added to their accounts.
    • Additional software that the students will need when they arrive on campus can be downloaded from the Helpdesk Downloads page.

  • Laptop repairs for students:
    • A full-time, on-campus technician is available for diagnosing and repairing computer hardware problems for program laptops (including Dell, Mac and HP Tablet PCs) at the HelpDesk.

  • Please report any issues with the wireless network or classroom technology tools to the Helpdesk (x4294, helpdesk@depauw.edu ).
