Symantec AntiVirus
Installing Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, Windows edition:
1] Backup your data files:
We recommend that you back up important documents often, especially before any major system upgrade.
2] Download and install Antivirus software:
Uninstall any other anti-virus software installed on your computer.
Download and install software - DePauw networked computers onl
For Windows 2000/XP: Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition (v 10.0) (19MB EXE)
Click on Run to install the software.
3] Update virus definition file:
First, run "Symantec Antivirus" software by clicking Start --> Programs --> Symantec Client Security --> Symantec Antivirus 10. (alternatively, you can also double-click Symantec Antivirus tray icon to run it)

Then, update virus definition manually by clicking "LiveUpdate..." button and follow the instruction.
4] Enable automatic virus definition update:

Symantec Anti-Virus Configuration Procedures to Enable Automatic Virus Definition Updates **After performing the following instructions, your virus software will be configured to “automatically” receive current virus identity updates from Symantec’s servers. Please note that if you are working on a laptop computers and/or a dial-up connection, you may not wish to enable this feature. Contact the Help Desk if you experience any problems or if you have questions or concerns. 1) Click on Start > All Programs > Symantec Client Security > Symantec Antivirus Client The following “Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition” main screen should appear:
On the upper left-hand corner of the window, click File > Schedule Updates 2) This brings up the “Schedule Virus Definition Updates” dialog box. Here, check the “Enable Scheduled Automatic Updates” checkbox, and then click the “Schedule” button:
3) At this screen under “Frequency”, select the radio button next to “Daily”. Next, change “When” time to 9:00 a.m. Then, click on the “Advanced” button:
4) In the “Missed Event Options” window, check the box (if not already checked) to “Handled Missed Events Within:” and change to 1 “hour(s) – of the scheduled time”:
5) Click “OK” to close all open windows. 6) To ensure that LiveUpdate runs correctly, click LiveUpdate, click Options, then click Configure..
7) Check both options under Express Mode. |
5] Run a complete system scan to check for viruses on your computer.
1. Under Scan , click on Scan Computer .
2. Then select Local Disk ( C: ) , and click Scan .
Continue through the scanning process. Please Note: This might take 30-60 minutes to run completely.
3. Once the scan is complete, you should see a screen like this:
If Symantec found viruses, it will give you the option to fix or quarantine the infected files. Either method will keep the infected files from affecting other files on your system. You can now click Exit and the Symantec screen will close.
