Untitled Document Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP), Corporate Edition, Windows edition:

1] Backup your data files:

We recommend that you back up important documents often, especially before any major system upgrade.

2] Download and install Antivirus software:

Uninstall any other anti-virus software installed on your computer.

Download and install software - DePauw networked computers only

    For Windows XP/Vista: Symantec Endpoint Protection, Corporate Edition (v 11.0) (75MB EXE)

Click on Run to install the software.

3] Update virus definition files:

First, run "Symantec Endpoint Protection " software by clicking Start --> All Programs --> Symantec Endpoint Protection--> Symantec Endpoint Protection. (alternatively, you can also double-click the SEP tray icon to run it)

   

Then, update virus definition manually by clicking "LiveUpdate..." button and follow the instructions.

4. How to automatically update virus definition files:

**After performing the following instructions, your virus software will be configured to automatically receive current virus identity updates from Symantec’s servers. Contact the Help Desk if you experience any problems or if you have questions or concerns.

Click on Start > All Programs > Symantec Endpoint Protection > Symantec Endpoint Protection

The following “Symantec Endpoint Protection main screen should appear:

On the upper left-hand corner of the window, select Change settings

Next to Client Management, select Configure settings

Here, select the tab “Scheduled Updates”:

At this screen under “Frequency”, select the radio button next to “Daily”. Next, change “When” to a time you will likely be using your computer.

If you wish, under "Randomization Options" you can also select for the updates to randomly start before or after your chosen time.
You are done! Click “OK” to close all open windows.

5] Run a complete system scan to check for viruses on your computer.

  1. Click on Scan for Threats , then select Run Active Scan or Run Full Scan.

    2. Active Scan only scans the most commonly infected files, and takes just a few minutes.

    3. A Full Scan is a much more thorough scanning process, scanning all files on the selected drive. Please Note: This might take 30-60 minutes to run completely.

   

 If Symantec found viruses, it will give you the option to fix or quarantine the infected files. Either method will keep the infected files from affecting other files on your system.
