The DyKnow system was originally developed at DePauw and is now a commercial system that is in use by hundreds of teacher and tens of thousands of students across the country. As the system is used more and more, there is an increasing need to provide support for the system in a variety of forms. This support includes (a) the addition of new features to the system including those features that can be added in the short-term and the initial exploration of ideas which may eventually lead to future generations of the system, (b) the correction of bugs, (c) assisting and training users of the system, (d) maintaining the equipment in the physical environment where the system runs, (e) participating in public relations and training demonstrations, (f) attending user group support meetings (g) testing new versions of the software, and (h) working on software systems that are related to DyKnow.
This position will provide successful applicants with the chance to work on a software system that is both professional and cutting edge. Successful applicants will assist with one or more of the projects outlined above, or with similar projects. The specific project(s) that the interns will contribute to will depend on the selected students backgrounds and interests, as well as on the relative priorities of the projects during the 2008-2009 academic year. The selected interns will have strong background in computer programming in high level language. Applicants who have completed at least the course CSC122 (Computer Science II) and who are majoring in computer science will be given preference. The selected interns will be required to sign an intellectual property agreement before starting to work on the system.
