Your reference librarians in Roy O. West seek help making our research assistance more readily available to DePauw students.
When you do research you’re probably not sitting within a few yards of our reference desk, as previous generations of students did. We used to be able to physically see students who needed or wanted help. Today’s students use our resources and the web from almost anywhere across campus, and we can’t possibly have librarians everywhere, all the time.
Your goal will be to help reference librarians to improve our accessibility and outreach. You’ll have lots of freedom to pick among possible projects, which include: building content for sites DePauw students use (popular sites like YouTube, Facebook, or the libraries’ website); making podcasts of library research tips or p.r.; making our IM reference services more accessible (promoting our AIM, gmail, and other accounts); creating and distributing short guides to library resources about campus visiting speakers, plays, concerts, and other events; identifying key places and times for personal service; creating and promoting Firefox plugins; or improving how we track statistics so we better know what’s useful and effective. You're welcome to work on tv, radio, or web content.
You’ll also work with us to provide reference assistance, so you’ll know more about how our catalog, journal databases, and other resources are constructed, what we can customize and what we can’t, and how they’re used. |
