During the last few years, I have taken hundreds of digital images and made more than a dozen mini-DVDs from student presentations, cultural events, and trips to China, Taiwan, New York, and other places on Chinese subjects. I would like first to convert these mini-DVDs to a format that I can edit into digital clips. Then, I would like to use them for various media: the Chinese website, a Google Earth project for Chinese culture, and blogs. The purpose of the project is to make these media richer and, in some of cases, interactive for information and for instruction. Some examples of professional goals include Google Earth displays of scenes and cultural images for students to visualize in my First-Year Seminar (FYS 197A), Introduction to Chinese Culture (AS 140), and The Silk Road (Winter Term 2009), and, for my language classes (CHIN 161 & CHIN 162), students can access information and materials through video and audio files in both Moodle class sites and a Chinese website. |

The associate intern needs to be familiar with digital editing and web authoring. The following software applications and skills are required for the project: iMovie/iDVD (or Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio pro), Dreamweaver, Word (with Chinese capacity), Google Earth, blogs, Moodle, and PowerPoint. The ideal intern should be quite familiar with iMovie/iDVD, Dreamweaver, and PowerPoint; the other skills can be learned as we go along.
