Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is ITAP?
A. ITAP stands for Information Technology Associates Program. ITAP is a program of distinction that allows students to take advantage of technology and apply it to a liberal arts education.

Q. Do we get course credit?
A. No. ITAP is a non-academic program, meaning that Associates do not take specific courses as members of the program. ITAP replaces work-study. You do not receive course credit toward graduation by participating in ITAP; however, any off-campus internship you obtain through ITAP could receive credit.

Q. Do we get paid?
A. Yes. Members of ITAP are expected to spend 8-10 hours per week in training or work experience in information technology and are paid for their work. ITAP Apprentices (first-year students) are paid $7.70 per hour, and ITAP Associates (sophomores - seniors) are paid $8.20 per hour for their work.

Q: What about work-study?
A: If you have work-study as part of your financial aid package, ITAP replaces this. If you do not receive work-study benefits, you will be paid just as you would if you had a job through the university.

Q. Is ITAP just for "techies" or Computer Science majors?
A. No. ITAP is designed for students with an interest in learning more about information technology and finding new and innovative ways to apply technology to whatever field they choose.

Q. How do students get selected for ITAP?
A. Admission to ITAP is highly selective. For more information, go to our Application Info page.

Q: What will be expected of me?
A: You will be expected to work 8-10 hours a week. There will also be training sessions and workshops, as well as speakers throughout the year. Your first year you will be required to complete a learning journal, and you will also be expected to complete an online portfolio.
