DePauw’s Data Center serves campus students, faculty, and staff with network services such as public Internet access, e-mail, file sharing, and administrative applications. In addition, the institution’s Web server is hosted in the data center.
The DePauw Data Center currently houses a server farm consisting of six racks and thirty production servers; mainly from the vendor, HP. DePauw data is stored on (or is being migrated to) a central 12TB SAN provided by the vendor, Compellent. (See photos of the data center consolidation.)
The primary operating systems in the center include Novell Netware, Novell SUSE Linux, Red Hat Linux, and Microsoft Windows. Netware serves GroupWise e-mail and campus file sharing. Red Hat Linux serves the administrative database. Microsoft Windows serves the University Web site.
Other major services hosted in the data center include course management (Blackboard/Moodle), facsimile imaging (OTG), facilities management (CBord), intrusion detection (SolarWinds), image storage (LUNA), financial aid packaging (PowerFAIDS), and interlibrary loan processing (ILLiad).
For the foreseeable future, DePauw has made a strategic commitment to use HP Hardware and to support Netware, Linux, and Windows.
