Through a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate internship opportunities made possible by its Opportunity Through Collaboration Program, DePauw encourages students and graduates to seek employment at Indiana start-up, small-, and mid-sized firms in five sectors targeted by the state for leading economic development: life science and bio-technology, advanced logistics, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and capital development.

Aviation Core Matrix LLC, founded in 2005, produces Aviation Skills Matrix, a talent and safety management system for the aviation industry. Utilizing the latest in development tools, interns work closely with our aviation professionals to ensure that the program meets, responds, and speaks to the needs of the industry.
"At Aviation Core Matrix, we utilize the latest software programs, languages, and tools to create our Web-based applications for aviation resources management. We rely on the input from DePauw students to provide fresh contributions of design and content. As a start up company, we value the contributions of DePauw students."

College Mentors for Kids, Inc., is an innovative non-profit that pairs local youth with college student mentors for weekly activities that expose youth to the opportunities of higher education.
"I truly enjoyed my internship with College Mentors for Kids (CMFK). What caught my attention in CMFK is its team spirit. The staff use their individual strengths effectively to help others on their team. The staff also devotes time to character development so everyone can get assistance in defeating their individual weaknesses. This great team spirit inspired us [the interns] to create a supportive atmosphere for ourselves."

The Indiana Genomics Initiative, INGEN, creates a world-class biomedical enterprise built on the existing strengths at the Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine and the IU Office of Information Technology. The initiative takes advantage of the explosion of new data derived from the federally funded Human Genome Project, which mapped the genetic sequence found in humans. With the near completion of that project, scientists must now begin to unravel the mysteries of what the sequence means. Ultimately, the INGEN Initiative will enable us to make revolutionary discoveries to cure diseases and improve human health. Christina Houston '05 worked on expressing and purifying glycogenin mutants for the Protein Expression Core at the Biotechnology Research and Training Center at the IU School of Medicine.
"The people were very helpful and made sure that you felt welcome and comfortable with your job. They were always willing to answer any questions I had and were readily available if I needed help with any aspect of my project. Overall, it was an enjoyable and educational experience. "
