Historical Sketch
In 1950 the barracks on College Avenue was converted to a food laboratory for the home
economics department and eventually furnished quarters for both the Air Force R.O.T.C. and the
International Studies Program. In 1951 the Defense Department responded by instituting a unit
of the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps at DePauw. After the American invasion of
Cambodia in May 1970 the South College Avenue headquarters was the scene of student arson.
