Historical Sketch
In addition to the initiation of new members into Alpha Lambda Delta (three sophomores on November 13, 1958 and nineteen freshman on April 7, 1959), the chapter following precedent, participated in Scholarship Weekend, the May Day Pageant, and the President's Reception for Freshman. Besides these traditional activities, Alpha Lambda Delta inaugurated a program for aiding freshmen in scholarship. They assisted by serving as guides on special tours for the high school visitors and by acing as receptionist for those professors interviewing the candidates for scholarships. In the May Day Pageant Mother's Day Weekend 1958 the members of Alpha Lambda Delta had the honor of being arch bearers for the daisy chain. Because Alpha Lambda Delta, as a freshmen Woman's honorary, felt a responsibility to the new freshmen in the area of scholarship plans for an appropriate program were begun in the fall of 1958. The purpose of this presentation was threefold: to reduce tension and apprehension about exams, to answer any pertinent questions and to introduce Alpha Lambda as an organization to the freshmen.
