Dr. Percy L. Julian, Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Dr. Anna Johnson Julian and Dr. Percy L. Julian. He was educated in the Oak Park Public Schools and received the B.A. Degree from Oberlin College in 1962 with a major in political science. He also studied at Northwestern University and the University of Colorado before he entered the Law School of the University of Wisconsin where he received the Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree in 1966. He has practiced law in Madison, Wisconsin since 1966 and is presently a member of the firm of Julian and Olson, S.C. Since his admission to the Wisconsin State bar, he has also won Court Admissions and Bar Memberships to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, and to various United States Court of Appeals and District Courts. Attorney Julian's specialty is in Constitutional, Criminal, and Civil Rights Litigation. He has frequently been a Lecturer in Criminal Law at the University of Wisconsin during the past ten years. Dr. Julian is a Cooperating Attorney and Special Counsel, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.; Special Counsel, American Civil Liberties Union; and Special Counsel, NAACP. In the practice of his profession he has represented civil rights workers, students, and college professors in many states throughout the country. Attorney Julian has received many distinct honors in recognition of his outstanding abilities. In 1978 he was named Lawyer of the Year for the Wisconsin Center for Public Representation, and in October 1980 he received the Wisconsin Law Alumni Association Award. He is also recognized as a professional photographer, having worked at this during his student years.. His photographs have appeared in many publications, including the Wisconsin Tales and Trails Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, and Creative Arts, 1967. During the year 1979-1980 he was awarded the Robert Stone Memorial Service Award of the Madison Community Center Photo Club. Percy Lavon Julian, distinguished scientist and humanitarian for whom the Julian Science and Mathematics Center is named, believed in and worked for the brotherhood of all mankind, regardless of race or nation. We are privileged to have his son present the Fifth Julian Memorial Lecture at DePauw University. In May and June of last year Percy L. Julian, Jr. traveled to China with a group of Wisconsin attorneys. They covered vast distances and were permitted to view places not seen by the usual tourist. Attorney Julian will take us on a photographic journey to China and share with his audience some of his experiences while there. He will offer a rare opportunity to view the new China as she emerges from long isolation to take her place among the great nations of our world.
