Biographical Sketch: One of Orsa Fred Overstreet's obituaries states, "He was a font of knowledge concerning facts and figures of Greencastle and Putnam County history, and often supplied the background for articles of a historical nature."

Overstreet was born in 1867 and his family moved to Greencastle when he was seven years old. His father, a dentist, (as was Orsa F. and his son, Ralph) set up a dental office and practiced 57 years. Orsa graduated from Greencastle High School in 1885 and spent the next three years at DePauw. In 1891 he received his degree in dentistry from the Indiana Dental College. After operating an office in Dayton, Ohio for a few months, he came home to practice dentistry for the next 48 years, retiring in 1938.

He and his wife, the former Jessie Joslin of Crawfordsville, enjoyed traveling and visited all the states in the Union and provinces in Canada. Their summers were spent in Bay View, Michigan, where there was a colony of Greencastle people. His wife died in 1927 and Overstreet died in 1959 at the age of 92.
