NORBERT GOOD TALBOTT

Norbert Good Talbott was born in Evansville, Indiana on April 16, 1897. He graduated from DePauw University in 1921, was granted his master's degree in History and Political Science from Columbia University in 1924, his bachelor of divinity degree from Drew Theological Seminary in 1924 and his doctor of theology degree from Drew in 1927. DePauw awarded him the doctor of divinity degree in 1951.

Dr. Talbott spent most of his ministry in the South Indiana Conference serving the United Methodist churches in Spencer; Broad Ripple; Indianapolis; Wall Street, Jeffersonville; Central, Evansville; Main Street, Huntingburg; and St. Paul in Rushville. He was the District Superintendent of the The Columbus District from 1946-1953. The last six years of his active ministry was as pastor of Trinity UMC in Huntington, Indiana located in the NIC.

Norbert Good Talbott married his college sweetheart, Florence Jane McCloud, also a 1921 graduate of DePauw. They had one son, Norbert Lee (Bert), another DePauw graduate.


This collection consists of articles and sermons written by Norbert Good Talbott, journals from several trips taken by the family, scrapbooks, and correspondence relating to a controversy that Talbott had as a chaplain in the U. S. Navy. It also includes some writings by Florence and Bert.
