Historical Background

A class was organized by Rev. Abram Rust, a pastor of Pipe Creek Circuit, at Moss schoolhouse, two miles west of Anderson, about April, 1871. In 1882, Rev. A. C. Rice, pastor of Perkinsville Circuit transferred the preaching services to the Baker Hill schoolhouse. The Bailey Chapel Church was erected in 1895, on an half acre of land in the southwest corner of Groff's 200 acre farm which he donated for that purpose, under the pastorate of Rev. M. L. Bailey at the cost of $1700. Bailey Chapel was a part of Middletown Circuit from 1895 until 1899, when it became a part of Frankton Circuit. From 1906 to 1908, Bailey Chapel was a part of Lapel Circuit, then became a part of Pendleton Circuit until 1915. After 1915, it has been known as Anderson-Bailey Chapel.

Bailey Chapel Church was closed December 28, 1986.
