Historical Background

The first record of the church states that the Belleville Methodist Episcopal Church was meeting in a frame building 30'x40' in the year 1835. The building was owned and shared by the Baptists. In July 1846, the Belleville Methodist Episcopal Church accepted a gift of two lots in Belleville, two blocks north of the corner of State Road 39 and U.S. 40. On this location in 1858 a red brick church home was built. In 1923 the old building was replaced by another brick church building. This building has been remodeled several times over the years.

This collection consists of two parts. Part I is folders containing church records. Part II is bound volumes of WSCS, Ladies Aid and United Methodist Women meeting minutes, ca. 1941-1987 (incomplete). See Methodist Bound Volume section for other volumes from this accession.
