Historical Sketch
The first development of Highland Village began on the north side of Whitehall Pike in 1955, and expanded to the south side in 1962. With this growth, there became a need for a second Methodist Church on the west side of Bloomington. May 19, 1963 was “Aldersgate Sunday,” the day observed by Methodism as the 225th Anniversary of the “heartwarming experience” of John Wesley. Appropriately enough, this was the chosen date for the organization of the new Methodist Church. Reverend Noel Spencer was the presiding minister, combining his pastoral duties with Crossroads Methodist Church. Saint Paul Methodist Church was the name given teo the new church. It is not Saint Paul’s. The Church belongs to Christ and is named in honor of Saint Paul. Ninety persons became Charter Members. A groundbreaking service was held on Sunday, December 8, 1963. On June 7, 1964, the first services were held in the new church building.
